A.      Trade and Investment in Africa

Africa faces major socio-economic and political challenges in accelerating growth, reducing poverty and creating employment opportunities. Trade and investment has long been considered primary instruments in attracting foreign direct investments. Implementing policies conducive to economic growth is key towards mobilizing resources for poverty reduction and development. This panel will focus on how Africa has historically been a source of international wealth while discussing about the business opportunities that are available for those interested in investing there.



B.      Innovative Approaches to Healthcare in Africa

Despite burgeoning economic growth in Africa, the large and complex healthcare burden still remains. Realizing on the potential in this industry, the private sector has played a significant role in Africa’s healthcare industry in recent years through a variety of innovative approaches to improving healthcare access, cost and quality. This panel will highlight key learnings and insights from new and established private sector players in Africa’s healthcare market while also examining unique business models for healthcare delivery, discuss challenges to sustainable long term success, and highlight crucial factors that must be addressed in order to close Africa’s healthcare gap.



C.      Opening Markets for Youth Entrepreneurs

It is true to the old adage that, “If you cannot find an opportunity, make one”. In today’s tough economy where jobs are hard to come by, more and more with young college graduates are turning into starting their own creative businesses after being rejected by a really tough job market. They are bringing services and products to market and in the process, creating jobs, wealth and opportunities for their communities. This panel of young entrepreneurs will share their personal experiences starting companies and raising capital, business tips and lessons learned during this interactive session.

Africa is a continent on the rise, and it is doing business and in the process attracting investors from around the world. While there are exciting business opportunities in Africa, there are equally many concerns and uncertainties from those who want to do business there. For some, Africa is still a dark continent despite the opportunities. This panel will feature speakers who are doing business in Africa now to provide light, information and guidance on what it really takes to do business in Africa.



B.      A New Paradigm: Public-Private Partnerships

Public private partnerships are defining a new paradigm and addressing some of the most significant challenges of the 21st century, particularly in the realm of economic development. This panel will explore how the public-private partnership model can be used to fill the gap in resources necessary for development, explore best practices for partnerships including those that go beyond the traditional “corporate social responsibility” to new models of “shared value”, and the unique role that the private sector can play as a catalyst and innovator for tackling youth unemployment and stimulating entrepreneurship.




C.      Women in Business & Entrepreneurship: Making an Impact

Entrepreneurship has always been a key factor in economic growth, innovation, and the development of firms and businesses. In this new frenzied economy where everything is getting re-defined and every rule re-examined, a business and an entrepreneurial mindset are more valuable than ever. In this panel, women at different stages of starting, launching and growing their own companies, or those supporting women who venture into business share their passions, success stories, lessons, and advice.
