Janet Ndanu Katisya is a commercial lawyer, serial entrepreneur, and mother of three, 5, 7, and 13. She resides and works in Mombasa Kenya.

She is passionate about solving problems and actively being part of the solution. She is passionate about equality, equity and justice and is an avid supporter of women rights and empowerment of women. She also believes that as a citizen one should participate and be part of the solution to make our country Kenya and the entire planet a better place for us and the next generation.

Janet loves to acquire new skills, meet new people and venture into exciting and new projects that have a positive impact on the society and environment.

Janet runs her own law firm that specializes in ADR, commercial and property law, J. Katisya and Associates. She has 15 years’ experience as a lawyer in conveyance commercial transactions, mediation, and arbitration. She was for 12 years a partner at Ndegwa, Katisya, Sitonik and Associates and Ndegwa, Muthama, Katisya, and Associates.

She was the Secretary-General of Mombasa Law Society for 4 years and has since served in various committees in the LSK and Mombasa Law Society. She was part of the Committee that developed the Legislative Drafting Handbook with Kenya Law Reform.

She is the Managing Director of Lawquery Limited, a legal consultancy, and training firm whose motto is Tunakuza Haki i.e. Promoting Justice. Lawquery is a platform ww.lawquery.co.ke to aid citizens to avoid conflict with the law and costs of non-compliance by providing the laws in a simplified way. Lawquery also guides people where to get help and has useful tips and contacts. Lawquery builds the capacity of citizens through information dissemination, knowledge transfer and capacity building on their online platforms and face to face.  

She is also the creator of LawQuery Kenya mobile app that brings summarized laws and guidance on where to get legal solutions at your fingertips. The app is available on Google Play store.

She is the Managing Director of Mpower Limited a social enterprise that provides a platform for small business, startups, and entrepreneurs especially women to network, get mentorship, build partnerships, build capacity in entrepreneurship and access the marketplace. Mpower Limited’s motto is Network, Learn, Grow and has ran programs in Mombasa in the last two years e.g. various seminars to provide capacity to entrepreneurs with KEBS, WEF, NITA, KENINVEST, KINGDOM SACCO, EPC, NIC BANK, Networking events for Entrepreneurs, Entrepreneur Mentoring Program and online Directory Mpower Directory and is currently working on a Mobile App for the Directory. www.mpowerlimited.co.ke, www.mpowerdirectory.com. Mpower Limited has been nominated for 3 years in a row for the KNCCI Mombasa Business Awards in various categories.

She is a motivational speaker to various corporates and teams. Her pet topic is “How can you add Value and make a difference?”. She is passionate about encouraging people to use innovation to add value, contribute to their community and environment and be a bright light. She is an avid blogger and a regular contributor to various blogs and publications, She Leads Africa, blog.mpowerlimited.co.ke, blog.mpowerwomen.co.ke and blog.lawquery.co.ke under her name or pen names.

Election to the FIFA Ethics Committee was the highlight of 2017 and she serves in the Investigatory Chamber that investigates breaches in Ethics in Football management.

She is a United States Government-sponsored International Visitors and Leadership Program- Entrepreneurs and Small Business alumni. In 2017 she represented Kenya in a group of entrepreneurs from 22 countries. In this program, she expanded her network, learned on best practices for entrepreneurship promotion and running a business from visiting various businesses and stakeholders of the entrepreneur ecosystem in 7 states in the USA.

As part of her civic duty and service, she contributes her time and expertise to various associations and committees when called upon and is currently:

  • Member of the Investigatory Committee of the Independent Ethics Committee of FIFA.
  • Vice Chair of the FKF Independent Disciplinary Appeals Committee
  • Vice Chair Person North Coast Rate and Rent Payers Association
  • Board Member of the Mombasa County Revolving Fund
  • Advisor to the Mombasa County Legislative Committee
  • Conduct training and advocacy on Corporate Governance, Leadership and Gender to SACCOS, Women and community on the radio.
  • IT Director of Rotary Club of Mombasa Nyali
  • Training and capacity building on Gender Mainstreaming, Corporate Governance, devolution and legal compliance
  • Election Observer for LSK in Elections 2017
  • Organized LawQuery Mombasa County Legal Aid Week 2017


Janet Katisya contributes to her society through various engagements as
